Nick Jonas Gets Critics’ Choice Gig, Wants To Make Tom Cruise Dance

Nick Jonas and his new band The Administration have just been announced as the official house band of the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and yes, we are squealing. In fact, we’ve been squealing since we sat down with the brooding 17-year-old to chat with him about his new album (We’re way older than Nick, and we’re digging his new song. Who knew?), what it means to be raw and vulnerable as a teen, his determination to make Hollywood A-Listers dance at the CCMAs, and of course, his picks for the best movies of the year.
And because we know you’re curious: yes, he’s hot in person. Like, really hot. As if that wasn’t enough, he was wearing boots like Jake Ryan in Sixteen Candles (which was made before he was born). Needless to say, we’re totally smitten.
Check out the Critics’ Choice Movies Awards site for more info on Nick’s big night and tune in to VH1 on Jan. 15 to see his new band rock out at the CCMAs. Press release after the jump.

(SANTA MONICA, CA – December 16, 2009) – Nick Jonas & The Administration will be taking center stage at this year’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards as the evening’s house band where they will perform classic hits as well a few of their original songs between awards and commercials. Joining Nick are four accomplished musicians who make up The Administration — bassist/producer John Fields and three former members of Prince’s New Power Generation including drummer Michael Bland, keyboardist Tommy Barbarella and guitarist Sonny Thompson. The band will make their award show debut at the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards hosted by Kristin Chenoweth on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 9:00 PM ET/PT.
Earlier this year, Nick and the band spent time in Nashville, Tennessee to record the album. What emerged was “a cross between my roots in R&B and soul with a kind of rock/pop music behind it” described Nick. The album, “Who I Am” will be released on February 2 while their tour kicks off on January 2, 2010 in Dallas, TX.
“We could not be more excited to have Nick Jonas & The Administration on our stage at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards,” said Tom Calderone, President, VH1.  ”We pride ourselves at VH1 on presenting high-energy performances by top artists during our live events. Nick and his band will certainly continue that tradition, revealing another side of Nick that his fans haven’t seen yet.”
