TV channels are churning out more shows for children

More players are crowding the kids' TV sandbox. Pint-sized viewers are watching more, and through rebranding or as new, stand-alone channels, Disney XD, Nick Jr. and Discovery's upcoming The Hub are chasing them. Nickelodeon still dominates overall, but Disney Channel is closing the gap and leads among "tweens" 9 to 14. From animation spawning licensed merchandise to live-action series sparking music sales, USA TODAY previews what's on the way.
Disney Channel. It's preparing to say goodbye to Hannah Montana, which begins its fourth and final season this summer, and unfurls Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, starring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, on Sept. 3, following a summer concert tour. The Jonases return in their own series, now called Jonas L.A., on June 20. Disney plans seven original movies next year — up from five this year — and several have musical tie-ins.
