Brotherly Love: Teens Answer Jonas Call To Help
A pop superstar threw out a challenge, and four teenagers from West Chester answered the call. Nick Jonas from the Jonas Brothers inspired them to help others, and as Dave Huddleston shows us, they've already helped.
It was a call to action from Nick Jonas. Nick has Type 1 diabetes, and he told the Philadelphia crowd during last year's concert to do something, anything, to help others.
It was an epiphany for 15-year-old Morgan Mullen and her three friends.
"It depends what you do to help other people, not what you do for yourself," said Morgan.
So on the spot, the girls decided to raise money and buy insulin pumps for needy children with diabetes. They call their event Pump It Up.
They got several Wendy's restaurants to donate and West Chester's athletic facility ACAC to jump on board.
November 7 and 14, ACAC is donating its swimming pools, moon bounce room, gyms and 30,000 square feet for games, snacks, face painting and more.
Staff members say these young ladies know how to get things done.
"They didn't just sit on the couch and say, 'Oh, we ought to do something, let's do something...' So we were like, 'Yeah, we'd love to,' and we're so glad we did." said Dawn Bunyon of ACAC.
This is the second year for Pump It Up. Last year they thought they would raise a couple hundred bucks.
"We'll have a small fundraiser, hopefully raise about four hundred dollars," said Brianna Pagliei. "We ended up raising $6025."
"It was amazing," said Morgan. "I couldn't believe it. I was proud of us."
Morgan's mom, Judy Mullen, was also proud. Like Nick, she has diabetes. Judy says she looks at these four teenagers and is simply amazed.
"I can't be any more prouder of my daughter and the other three," Judy said. "They are just extraordinary women that are going to grow and change the world."
The money will go to the Jonas Brother's foundation called Change For The Children.

Jonas Mom: Kevin Picked the 'Right Girl'
As Kevin Jonas prepares to head to the altar, his mom, Denise, couldn't be happier with his choice of a bride. "I really think she is the right girl," Jonas tells PEOPLE of Danielle Deleasa.
In fact, Denise says she sees so many similarities between herself and Kevin's fiancée that she teases her son, "You're marrying your mother – but she is just thinner and prettier."
And Denise isn't the only one in the family who gives the seal of approval to Deleasa, 23. All of the Jonases feel close to her, including youngest brother Frankie, 9.
"He really loves her and is proud of her," says Denise, 43. "He already acts like a little brother [to her]."
But no matter how old her kids get, Denise says, "I'm always their mom." That's the message she hopes to share as an ambassador of iMom.com, a Web site that offers mothers practical advice on how to get involved in their children's lives.

Tough Adjustment
Still, the mom to megastars admits, it's been a little hard adjusting to the idea that her eldest son will soon leave the nest. "My role has really changed," she says, noting that three of her four sons now have driver's licenses and diplomas. But no matter how old her kids get, Denise says, "I'm always their mom." Nick Jonas Ditching Those Other Brothers...for Now?
It was only a matter of time until one of the Jonas Brothers decided he's the Beyoncé of the group, and we're glad it's Nick Jonas.
The young one confirmed today that about six months ago he started working on a side project in Nashville with four musicians not named Jonas.
Hence, the debut album from Nick Jonas & the Administration is due out sometime next year.
(Sounds like Nick is taking his nickname "Mr. President" a little too seriously, but when you're a little millionaire at the age of 17, you can do whatever you want.)
The admission from Nick puts to rest the speculation that the teen was branching out on his own and comes hours after Mama Jonas spilled the beans.
Earlier today, Parade magazine released quotes from its Sunday issue in which Denise Jonas says, "Nick is working on a solo act—it's called Nick Jonas and The Administration. Shhh! He's at the photo shoot for the album cover right now."
Of course, the question remained, would this mean the end of the JoBros?
Hardly, according to the heartthrobby trio.
Ticking off their points of discussion one by one, Joe, Nick and Kevin (or whoever does their blogging) wrote on their website today that "The Jonas Brothers are NOT breaking up!" as well as "We are ALL excited about this project AND what we are doing TOGETHER!" and "We plan to make music together for as long as we can."
"A three chord strand is not easily broken," read another message from Joe and Kevin. "And one thing's for sure…this three chord strand is stronger now than it's ever been."
They're also planning another world tour for next summer, which is a relief, but still...
"This project would only expand the Jonas brand," a source reassured E! News. But strengthen the brand like how Justin Timberlake breaking out on his own helped 'N Sync?
"The music is amazing and really shows off Nick's vocal range," the source added.
In the meantime, this will give Kevin plenty of time to get married and Joe can, uh, what's he got going on? Oh, right! He's maybe romancing Demi Lovato. See, everyone wins!

Nick Simple Wins New Blog
Hello Everyone,Source: NickSimpleWins
October has been another busy month, my brothers and I just finished filming Camp Rock 2 and head back on the road this weekend to finish up our World Tour. We are going back to Latin and South America for a few dates and then it is off to Europe for the final leg of our World Tour.
Traveling to new places and meeting new people is one of my favorite parts of touring, but sometimes it can also make it more challenging for me to carefully monitor my blood glucose levels. I always make sure to have my CONTOUR® meter with me, and I take the time to check my glucose levels, no matter how busy I get – even when on stage sometimes.
Also, this month I’ll be announcing the winners of the Express Your Simple Win contest. I’m so impressed by all of the entries that were submitted. You all have so many diverse accomplishments to be proud of, and it made my job of selecting the winners nearly impossible. Congratulations to all of those who entered the contest and thank you for taking the time.
My Simple Win this month is taking care of myself and my health while having the time of my life on tour and filming a movie.

The Jonas Brothers Are Not Breaking up :)
WE ARE NOT BREAKING UPSource: Myspace.com/JonasBrothers
Hey everyone!
#1 – The Jonas Brothers are NOT breaking up!
#2 – Nick Jonas IS working on a side project called
Nick Jonas & The Administration
#3 – This project will be released early in 2010
#4 – We are ALL excited about this project AND what we are doing TOGETHER!
#5 – We plan to make music together for as long as we can.
To our dearest fans,
A news story hit the internet today concerning Nick Jonas & The Administration. We are so excited to share it with you…OUR FANS.
From Nick:
About 6 months ago, the three of us had a 2 week break from touring, and we all decided to go and do something that was on our hearts. Joe went on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Kevin spent some time with his fiancé Danielle. I decided to go to Nashville, TN to make a side project (Nick Jonas & The Administration) with 4 musicians – guys that I had met and worked with before. If I was to describe the sound to someone… I would say its “heart & soul”, because the music that I make is from my heart, and the lyrics I write are from my soul.
We’ve said from the beginning of our career as the Jonas Brothers that anything we do outside of the group is a side project because you can’t break up brothers. My brothers are my biggest supporters, and were on the phone with me every day while I was in the studio asking how it was going, and telling me they couldn’t wait to hear the record.
My brothers and I couldn’t be more excited to have these amazing opportunities as a group, and as individuals. We are already planning another world tour AS THE JONAS BROTHERS next summer, and it is all thanks to our amazing fans.
I am so excited to share more details about my project with all of you as we come closer to the end of the year, but for right now, Kevin, Joe and I have a show to play in Venezuela!
From Joe and Kevin:
We are so proud of our brother Nick. We know that we will be doing music together for the rest of our lives. But we are thrilled for you to hear these songs that were on his heart. They are amazing works of art from an amazing talent…our brother. We will see you later this year, next year, and hopefully for the rest of our lives.
“A three chord strand is not easily broken”, and one thing’s for sure… this three chord strand is stronger now than it’s ever been.
You are truly the best fans in the world, and we love you with all our hearts.

Jonas Bros' Mom Confirms Nick's Solo Act
Jonas Bros' Mom Confirms Nick's Solo Act
Rumors of an upcoming solo act from Nick Jonas have proven to be true, according to Jonas Brothers' mom Denise Jonas. “Nick is working on a solo act--it's called Nick Jonas and The Administration. Shhh! He's at the photo shoot for the album cover right now," Denise Jonas told Parade.com.
And the proud mom isn't shying away from gushing about her (soon-to-be) daughter-in-law Danielle Deleasa, who is set to marry her eldest son, 21-year-old Kevin Jonas.
"Kevin and his fiancee Danielle have set their wedding date--but it's completely private. Danielle, bless her heart, is from a great little Italian family. She is everything I ever prayed for and hoped for Kevin," she added.
Kevin Jonas, the oldest of the singing trio, took an overnight flight after performing a concert in Vancouver to propose to Danielle Deleasa, 22, at her New Jersey home in July.

Denise Jonas reveals her secret to raising three levelheaded superstars
'We Loved Them. It's That Simple.'
by Fran Carpentier
published: 10/27/2009
"Kevin was my first child. When he was 20 months old, I was pregnant with Joe. And I would cry every night--every night--thinking, 'how could I ever love the new baby as much as I love Kevin?' because he was just so spectacular, so special. I really struggled; I was so concerned. I just did not know how I could love another child as much as I loved my first. And as soon as Joe was born, it was like, 'How did I ever think that?! How could I have ever even felt that way?'"
Frankie is the youngest Jonas by eight years. Are you raising him any differently from the way you raised Kevin, Joseph and Nick?
"We want life to be very normal for Frankie. He's certainly being raised in kind of a different way from our older boys because our family has changed, we've learned a lot of things, and our lives are different today. Frankie probably gets away with a little bit more than his brothers ever did because our schedules are so busy and because [laughs] I am tired!
"I think you would find Frankie just as charming as the other boys. I'm amazed at him and at what has been thrown at him at such a young age. He loves his brothers, is very supportive--yet, at 9, he's his own person. Frankie has a roll in the new movie--it's not a TV movie. All four Jonas Brothers are in it. I'm not even sure I'm supposed to talk about it. Frankie was being interviewed about the movie and was asked, 'Which Jonas Brother is the best actor?' And he answered, 'Oh, my brothers are all great actors.' The interviewer pushed, 'But what about you--aren't you the best?' And he simply stated, 'Oh, no. No way.' I am amazed by him."
How do you deal with the constant spotlight that your famous sons live under?
"The spotlight is always on, and I am always worried. My sons are human, they err, and they will err. And there's always somebody looking to see if they will make a mistake. And they will, and I'm not going to be surprised, and I'm not going to be shocked, and I'm not going to disown them. I love them. And if they do make a mistake, I expect them to learn how to deal with it, to pick themselves up, and move on. We all make mistakes. We all have things that come our way that are difficult. Then also, there's always more than one side to every story. I just ignore a lot of that stuff. It's all negative."
Is there anything you would change about your sons?
"I wouldn't change anything--other than Nick's diabetes. But this 'detour' has been a backdoor blessing. Nick has brought a whole new wave of understanding to diabetes and helped countless people. I see it at the concerts, the way people respond to him when he sings 'Just A Little Bit Longer.' Lives have even been saved--it's amazing how many people didn't know about diabetes or its symptoms."
Have you ever shown favoritism to any of your sons?
"Favoritism, no. But I think that for certain reasons, at certain times, one child may need more nurturing than another. I've seen that with all of my sons at different stages, with different hormones going on in their bodies, certainly I've seen that. But it's certainly not about being more proud of one son than the other, or having a favorite. But within the entertainment industry, I have seen instances where a parent has a favorite child or favors one of their children over another, and that breaks my heart."
What about favoritism between your sons?
"My husband and I have tried very hard to encourage our sons to be very supportive of one another, and they are. What's great is that my three older boys include Frankie in everything."
Do the Jonas Brother still need "mothering"?
"Yes. I think so."
Is that why you still tour regularly with the Jonas Brothers?
"Actually, Johnny Wright gave me the best advice about this. Johnny co-manages the boys. He managed the Back Street Boys, 'N Sync, Britney [Spears], and Justin [Timberlake]. So he has worked with a lot of minors and watched them grow into adulthood. He has seen everything. I asked Johnny, 'My sons are getting older. I don't want to be in the way. Should I keep touring with them?' And he said, 'Denise, stay with them until they're 50.'
"Actually, the boys are going to South America without me. But I always go on tour as much as I can. Why would I want to be away from my husband and my family?"
What Jonas Brothers' scoops do you have for Parade.com?
"Nick is working on a solo act--it's called Nick Jonas and The Administration. Shhh! He's at the photo shoot for the album cover right now. And Kevin and his fiancee, Danielle Deleasa, have set a wedding date--but it's completely private. Danielle, bless her heart, is from a great little Italian family. She is everything I ever prayed for and hoped for Kevin."
So, are you ready to be a mother-in-law?
"Absolutely!"
JONAS BROTHERS HAIRCUT UPDATE! Joe Jonas' Short Hair!
Yes! We’ve had over half a year to get used to Joe Jonas’ shaggy/curly Adrien Grenier haircut (and a little less time to let those reeedonkulous-flavored photos of Joe Jonas in In Style magazine sink in.) But it looks like Joe Jonas got sick of his curly hair (dude, I so hear that) and went nice, short, and clean-cut as the Jonas Brothers spent time in the Dominican Republic on the next leg of their world tour.Source: BuzzWorthy.MTV
My take: this is totally the absolute hottest dude haircut ever — case in point: James Franco, Robert Pattinson, and, um Nick Jonas! It’s pretty much a scientific fact that it’s nearly impossible for a dude to have this haircut AND NOT be smoking. It’s a win/win situation. Somehow, Joe Jonas just managed to make himself EVER hotter. I know. Hard to believe. What do you think of Joe Jonas’ new hair?
Hundreds Of Girls Try To Sneak Into Jonas Brothers Hotel!
The Jonas Brothers played to a crowd of 50,000 fans at The Dominican Republic's largest arena, Sanchez Olympic Stadium Sunday night, but seeing the pop sensations on stage wasn't enough for some fans.
Nearly 300 young girls descended on the boys' hotel, the Hilton Santo Domingo, trying to catch a glimpse of their heroes.
"The girls were freaking out!" one hotel guest told RadarOnline.com. "Some of the girls were trying to sneak in. I saw several of them get kicked out by security."

Joe Jonas Kicks Back at the Cafe!
Making the most of his time back home before heading off to the Dominican Republic, Joe Jonas was spotted spending time with friends in Los Angeles on Saturday (October 24).
After getting in a workout earlier in the day, the newly short-haired Jonas Brothers hunk met up with a few pals to visit a local cafe – then strolling around town with their tasty treats.
As previously reported by Gossip Center, Joe and his rocker brothers Nick and Kevin are slated to put on a show in the Dominican Republic later today.
Of the gig, the JoBros wrote on their MySpace blog: “Hey everyone! Especially those in Dominican Republic! We are so excited to be with you on Sunday. This will be our first visit to the Dominican Republic and we are so excited. Hope we see you all there!”

Denise Jonas is set to speak at an iMom event
Turns out she’s thinking about some of the same things we “regular” moms are – how to keep the clan close, which battles to wage with the kids and which to forget and so on.
Denise Jonas is set to speak at an iMom event at a Brooklyn school on Friday, Oct. 23. The nonprofit organization iMom provides support for moms in school and online. The organization has monthly events called iMom Morning, at 350 public schools across the nation.
Here’s some of her advice, some personal principles she’s acquired on her own:
1. Put in the rug time. “I called our family’s spontaneous father-and-sons games “rug time” or “rearranging the living room without license.” But without a word, the boys and their dad called it love. I learned that no carpet or piece of furniture is worth more than bonding that happens in the rug time.”
2. Cook when you can. “Life on the road wreaks havoc on kitchen togetherness but I love to cook and I’ve learned to do it as much as I can. Something’s very comforting about eating food mom cooks.”
3. Never mind the hair. “Moms also know this lesson as ‘choose your battles.’ As issues come up, I’ve learned to weigh each for its big-picture significance and adjust my response. Some things, like a teenager’s hair, I let go.”
4. Buy the drums. “Your daughter wants to play softball? Find a team. Your son wants to sing? Encourage it. Someone’s good at drawing? Quick: paper and colors. At times you have to study your kids. Other times their gifts hit you full force. Whatever the case, give them a chance — then stand back and give them room.”
5. Celebrate the wrinkle cream. “In a store once, I saw a wrinkle cream and mentioned it to the boys that I like it. Next Mother’s Day, I’m unwrapping the wrinkle cream and felt like crying! But the sweet thing is, my sons had heard me and wanted to please me.”
6. Trust the detours. First the news of Nick’s diabetes brought shock. Then we responded as a family. We learned about diabetes, followed the guidelines and stayed the course — and our eyes opened to others with health issues. Bad news has been a back door blessing.”
7. Stay grateful. “With privilege comes responsibility and we’re grateful for all of it. Yes, everything. Our flight is held up? We’re grateful to be going. Our hotel reservation is one room short? We’ll sleep on the floor. Life isn’t perfect, but in every circumstance, our job is to manage our response.”
8. Sit close, hug often. “Our family speaks the language of hugs and we speak it liberally. I’ve learned that when words aren’t enough, holding my child says volumes. Kids outgrow laps but never hugs.”
9. Set internal pillars. “The world presses in with schedules, expectations and exhaustion. How my children withstand that has everything to do with what’s inside them. We don’t just assume our kids will pick up good inner structures such as honor, self-respect, honesty and kindness. We talk about these things and praise our kids when those qualities show.”
10. Be the mom. “My kids don’t need me to be a buddy, a sidekick or a maid: They need me to be a mom. Kids need a mom to set limits, set the example and set out what they can be and do. Anyone can be a friend. Only the mom can be the mom. That’s the highest calling — a a big reason I’m big on iMom.”
JB Signed Guitars For The Beaumont Hospital Auction
Not exactly bands you would expect to collaborate on a regular basis. But when it's for kids and for cancer, anything can happen.
And it will Saturday, Oct. 24 as the 2009 Stars Guitars event takes place at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center in Dearborn.
The autographed guitar and sports memorabilia auction -- which includes a performance by classic rockers REO Speedwagon -- is raising money for the Charles A. Main M.D. Pediatric Cancer Survivor Scholarship Fund.
Main says the fund came about nearly two decades ago, when a Birmingham business owner and former patient of the Chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, approached him with a business proposal.
"He said Birmingham is going to have a Fall Spectacular Fashion Show and we want to donate the money to charity," Main said. "He asked me, 'If we give the money to you, what would you do with it?'"
After brainstorming with his wife, co-workers and much soul searching, Main came up with an idea.
"It always bothered us that there was never a real closure with the kids who had gone through chemotherapy. So many of the families spent most, or all of, their savings," he said.
"The kids missed so much school and fell so far behind. We thought it would be nice to give out money to people who didn't think of themselves as college material."
So for the next 10 years, Birmingham's Fall Spectacular Fashion Show supported Main's Pediatric Cancer Survivor Scholarship Fund, starting in 1992 with one student receiving help for her entire college career.
The event -- and the fund -- grew over the next decade. Until Sept. 11, 2001.
"The Fall Spectacular was scheduled for Sept. 12 that year," Main says. "So after what happened on 9/11, we canceled it. And the whole thing lost momentum after that."
After taking a few years off, a group of volunteers working with the fund came up with a new idea: gathering up autographed guitars, sports memorabilia, signed books and other valuable items to be auctioned off at a stroll around dinner event, complete with live entertainment.
"Right from the beginning, we wanted to keep it very casual," Main says. "So many of these kind of events you have to rent a tux and buy a fancy dress. We wanted to keep it moderately priced.
"Every year we have people there in jeans and t-shirts and we have people there in tuxes. And it's great."
This year, along with the REO Speedwagon concert, up for auction will be a LeBron James autographed All-Star jersey, a Curtis Granderson jersey and many other signed items from the Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons.
But the 54 signed guitars are the highlight of the show, and are a result of tireless work by volunteers.
"It's one of those things where we're asking for donations all the time, and you may get one out of the 20 bands you ask to help you," Main said.
Main says they have gotten a great deal of support from several artists year after year. Melissa Etheridge, a breast cancer survivor herself, has always been very supportive, he says. So has country star Toby Keith, who had an original band member lose his daughter to kidney cancer at age 2.
"So once he found out what we were doing, he pretty much stops whatever he's doing to sign and send a guitar for us every year," Main says.
There's also several local acts who regularly get involved. This year, there are guitars from Michigan natives Alice Cooper and Bob Seger, as well as Chickenfoot (Chickenfoot drummer Chad Smith is a Bloomfield Hills native), Kid Rock and Mitch Ryder.
All of them will be up for auction. But the highlight, at least for Main, is the guitar autographed by the late Les Paul.
"He put us through the toughest investigation of anybody we've worked with to make sure we were legit," Main said. "But once he found out we were, he was great to work with."
Musicians also contributed several other signed items for the auction. Avenged Sevenfold sent an autographed Revolver Magazine along with a guitar, Styx's Dennis DeYoung sent an autographed keyboard, and Pearl Jam contributed a poster from a June 2008 concert in New York City signed by the band.
"We are always thrilled to find ways to support the charitable work of organizations such as Beaumont Hospital," said Pearl Jam's publicist Virginia Piper.
This year, Main says the proceeds from the event will help send 40 former cancer patients to college, contributing up to $2,000 per year per students as long as they are in school.
"Last year, we had a girl finish medical school," Main said. "We've had lawyers, firemen, teachers, engineers. It's been so incredibly rewarding to see them all go this far."
Tickets for the event are $75 and there are still seats available.
